Creating for the Makers + Shakers (literally)

When The Makers + Shakers Market Founder, Emma Morris, first saw my winning Adelaide Fringe Poster, she knew (she says) that she wanted to work with me. Fast forward a year or so, and Emma reach out to see if I would be interested in illustrating posters for their 2024 Makers and Shakers Markets in Melbourne and Sydney.

I was stoked, and readily accepted the creative challenge 🤓.

The posters needed to uniquely reflect both market locations, while also featuring the much loved items that the markets are known for (think vases, prints, earrings, mugs… as well as delicious snacks like donuts, toasties and pizza… and of course coffee and wine!) It was a lot, to fit into a poster design… along with all the essential text details as well!

But the Makers and Shakers brand has a robust playful palette to work with, and after a few rounds of refinements, we’d created a key visual - unique to each location, yet similar enough to feel they were part of the same story.

We then rolled the key visual out across alllll sorts of collateral - posters, billboards, social media graphics, maps, even kids colouring pages - to create a strong and well received promotional campaign across both Melbourne and Sydney, as well as a consistent brand experience for market goers across all touchpoints!
